About Romasuku
Romasuku is an independent travel resource for overseas anime fans who want to visit Japan and see the real-world places behind the shows they love — a practice known in Japanese as seichi junrei (聖地巡礼), or "pilgrimage to sacred sites."
Anime pilgrimage sits at the intersection of two things: a deep love of a series, and the very practical challenge of travelling in a country where you may not speak the language. A famous scene might be set on an ordinary suburban staircase, a small shrine, or a seaside town that takes three trains to reach. Our goal is to make those trips easier to plan and more rewarding to take.
What you'll find here
- Beginner-friendly explanations of what anime pilgrimage is and how it works.
- Guides to real locations and the regions they sit in.
- Practical travel advice — rail passes, getting around, staying connected, and where to base yourself.
- Etiquette guidance so that fans visit quietly and respectfully.

How we stay independent
Romasuku is not affiliated with any anime studio, production committee, or rights holder. All series titles, characters and trademarks belong to their respective owners, and we reference them only to help fans identify real-world locations.
Some of our guides include links to travel services such as rail passes, eSIM providers and accommodation. When you book or buy through those links we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. This helps us keep the site running. We only suggest services we believe are genuinely useful to travellers. See our Privacy Policy for details.
